NARRATOR: This copepod is a representative of the permanent plankton.
Another member of the permanent plankton is the rotifer. Like the copepod, the rotifer grazes on phytoplankton. Its diatom-filled stomach can be seen shifting inside as the rotifer stretches and twists.
Abundant in the permanent plankton are tintinnids, which are ciliate protozoans. This organism strips algae cells from water with its fast-beating cilia.
The transparent larvacean also spends its entire life as part of the zooplankton.
