Julia Roberts, (born Oct. 28, 1967, Smyrna, Ga., U.S.), U.S. actress. After roles in the films Mystic Pizza (1988) and Steel Magnolias (1989), she became a major star with the romantic comedy Pretty Woman (1990). Although she became especially known for her comedic films—including My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997), Notting Hill (1999), and Ocean’s Eleven (2001)—Roberts also appeared in dramas, notably Erin Brockovich (2000; Academy Award). Her later credits included Charlie Wilson’s War (2007), Duplicity (2009), Eat Pray Love (2010), Mirror Mirror (2012), August: Osage County (2013), and Wonder (2017) as well as the TV movie The Normal Heart (2014).
