Eric Cantona, (born May 24, 1966, Marseille, France), French football (soccer) player. He most notably played for Manchester United (1992–97), helping revive the English powerhouse club and becoming one of its favourite players. Known for his fiery temper, he was suspended for much of 1995 after jumping into the stands and attacking an opposing fan. Following his retirement in 1997, Cantona occasionally acted.
