Petworth, town (parish), Chichester district, administrative county of West Sussex, historic county of Sussex, southern England. The parish adjoins the great park of Petworth House, now owned by the National Trust. The mansion itself was largely rebuilt (1688–96) by Charles Seymour, 6th duke of Somerset, and contains a noted art collection. Its deer park was landscaped in the 18th century by Lancelot (“Capability”) Brown. Pop. (2001) 2,775; (2011) 3,027.
