Jamalpur, city, north-central Bangladesh. It lies on the west bank of the Old Brahmaputra River.
An important trade centre, especially for agricultural products, it is connected by rail with Mymensingh, Jagannathganj Ghat, and Bahadurabad Ghat and by road with Mymensingh, Tangail, and Meghalaya state in India. It has several government colleges. The surrounding region is largely agricultural; among the chief crops are rice, jute, sugarcane, mustard seeds, peanuts, and wheat. Pop.
