Hornindals Lake, lake, Sogn og Fjordane fylke (county), western Norway. Occupying the trough of a glacial valley, the long and narrow lake has a length of about 16 miles (25 km) and a maximum width of 3 miles (5 km). In the west it tapers to a sharp point and drains westward into Nord Fjord, which it parallels. The lake’s total area is approximately 20 square miles (50 square km). One of the clearest lakes in Scandinavia, Hornindals has a maximum depth of 1,600 feet (500 m), making it the deepest lake in Europe.
