Amroha

Amroha, city, northwestern Uttar Pradesh state, northern India. It is located west-northwest of Moradabad on the Sot River.

The city is a marketplace for agricultural produce. Its chief industries are hand-loom weaving, pottery making, and sugar milling. Colleges affiliated with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University (formerly Agra University) in Agra are located there, as is the shrine of Sheikh Saddu, a Muslim saint. Amroha is connected by rail with Moradabad and with Delhi to the southwest. Pop. (2001) 165,129; (2011) 198,471.
