Zyryanovsk

Zyryanovsk, city, eastern Kazakhstan. It lies on the Beryozovka River (a tributary of the Irtysh River) in the southern Altai Mountains.
Zyryanovsk is an important centre of the lead- and zinc-mining industry, which first came into being when rich deposits of polymetallic ores were discovered there in 1794 by the exile Gerasim Zyryanov. The city is linked by rail to Öskemen to the west. Pop. (2009) 39,320; (2012 est.) 38,096.
