Saharsa, city, east-central Bihar state, northeastern India. It is situated just east of the Kosi River.
The city is a major rail and road hub and has an electric power station. It was constituted a municipality in 1961. The surrounding region consists of fertile alluvial plains irrigated by the Kosi and its tributaries. Rice, corn (maize), oilseeds, and jute are the principal crops. Pop. (2001) 125,167; (2011) 156,540.
