Davangere, city, central Karnataka state, southern India. It is situated in an upland area just east of the Tungabhadra River,
The city is a major road and rail junction. It supports a large-scale textile industry and is a trading centre for cotton and grain. The surrounding villages produce hand-loomed cotton and wool. Several colleges affiliated with the University of Mysore in Mysuru are situated at Davangere. It is the site of Bapuji Institute of Engineering and Technology. Pop. (2001) 364,523; (2001) 434,971.
