Clinch River, river rising in Tazewell county, southwestern Virginia, U.S., and flowing about 300 miles (480 km), generally southwest, through the Great Appalachian Valley into eastern Tennessee. There it passes through Norris Lake (impounded by Norris Dam) near the junction with the Powell River and flows on through Watts Bar Lake to the Tennessee River. The river is an important part of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) system.
