Borgo Maggiore, town, Republic of San Marino, located northeast of the city of San Marino, the republic’s capital, on the slopes of Monte Titano, at an elevation of 1,706 ft (520 m) above sea level. It is considered a suburb of the city of San Marino and has most of the capital’s shops and offices. Borgo Maggiore is the principal market town of the republic, and is also the seat of the Italian consulate. Historically it was incorporated into the city of San Marino but is now a separate town. Borgo Maggiore is connected to the capital by funicular and road and to Rimini, Italy, by helicopter service (in the summer) and highway. Pop. (2006 est.) 6,061.
