In 1975 the first McDonald’s drive-through opened in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Soldiers stationed at nearby Fort Huachuca army base were not allowed to appear in public in uniform, making it impossible for them to park and enter the restaurant. The drive-through allowed them easy access to the fast-food spot, skyrocketing that location’s sales.
