Question
What is the adjective form of tourist? — Rida, Israel
Answer
There are two adjective forms of tourist. The first is the noun tourist used as an adjective in front of another noun, as in:
- Tourist attraction
- Popular tourist destination
- Tourist trap
The other is the word touristy, which is an informal and slangy word, with negative connotations. It can be used in contexts like these:
- Touristy souvenirs
- Try to avoid the touristy areas.
- The area around the square is very touristy.
As you can see in the last example, touristy does not need to be used in front of a noun.
