"Measure" as a transitive verb

The verb measure is used to find a specific size or length but sometimes it's used for things that can't be calculated so easily.

The most precise and technical sense of measure is "to find out the size, length, or amount of (something)": measure the doorway.> measure the distances using satellite technology.> <Measure one cup of sugar for the cake's frosting.>

A broader sense means "to judge the importance, value, or extent of (something)": <His success cannot be measured solely on the basis of his popularity.> measure [=evaluate] the importance of these events.> measures his success only by his salary.>
