As soon as and no sooner are similar in meaning but fit differently into a sentence.

 

As soon as is almost always followed immediately by a noun or adjective:

As soon as you finish dinner, join us outside.

Come visit as soon as possible.

Call as soon as you can.

 

No sooner is almost always followed immediately by a verb:

No sooner had she finished her speech than the lights went out.

I had no sooner begun to read when the phone rang.

I would no sooner give my kids permission to drive at night as during a blizzard.
