BIOGRAPHY

Wayne Ralph served as an RCAF officer and pilot, and has had a career in commercial aviation and aerospace journalism. His BA degree is from Memorial University of Newfoundland, his MA from the University of Calgary, where he was a Department of National Defence Strategic Studies Scholar. His MA thesis was on weapons systems acquisition, in particular the CF18 and CP140 aircraft. His biography of Canada’s most decorated war hero, William Barker VC, was chosen as a notable book of the year by The Globe and Mail, and received the McWilliams Medal of the Manitoba Historical Society. It became the basis for two television documentaries on History Channel and Discovery Channel. Aces, Warriors & Wingmen – Firsthand Accounts of Canada’s Fighter Pilots in the Second World War was a national bestseller in 2005. Recent published works include an essay in the July-August 2014 edition of Canadian Geographic Magazine, and a chapter on Canada’s aviation heroes in the forthcoming Canada’s Great War Album-Our Memories of the First World War (Harper Collins Canada, Toronto, 2014).
